How exactly the freemasons are a secret society?

Since literally everyone knows about them!

If they were the “almighty” and didn’t wanted to be known, they wouldn’t let countless movies and books about them go into circulation now, would they? What’s the catch here?

    they aren’t a secret society.

    The who?
Why not write your own cover story?

We aren’t nor do we claim to be a secret society. If we were, we wouldn’t wear rings, jewelry, tie tacks, mark our buildings, or put badges on our vehicles. The only people that claim that we are a secret society are those ignorant fools that don’t know anything about our wonderful fraternity.

    Merry Christmas.

They’re not as secret as they once were. They have been infiltrated over the centuries and many of their secrets have been uncovered and have been disclosed to the public.

Freemasons are not part of a secret society. It is a society with secrets, there is a distinct difference. A secret society is a society that operates in secrecy, and it’s members are not known. Freemasons show their membership, rings, t-shirts, license plates. Membership is not a secret, and as the buildings are clearly marked neither is the organization.

The so-called secrets of Freemasonry are simple. They are the grips (handshakes) words (passwords), and signs (salutes). These are kept secrets by masons because they are used by Freemasons as ways to identify themselves as Freemasons within the lodge, but also when visiting other lodges where they are not known.

The symbol of Freemasons, the square and compasses, is also readily identifiable as describes above. It is actually the symbol of the master (3rd degree) mason.
